about
‘Trust Me’ was written years ago whilst the artist was living in Eastern Europe.
“I was seeing a Romanian body builder for a while, she was a tree surgeon and used to come up with songs whilst working,” Keen recalls. “She used to hum this melody but didn’t know where it had come from and assumed it was an old folk song.”
If that was true then it might make a good story
The songwriter resolves that it was a tricky one to get right after existing in many incarnations, “I ended up doing the most simple, stripped back arrangement and in the end that’s what fit. I liked the melody but I couldn’t ever commit to a version that I liked until it was way too late anyway so I just made a version and said it was done.”
lyrics
Trust me as you walk beside me
'Cause I don’t have belief in this world that I see except the air that I breathe and this world at my feet when I’ve got you by my side
Trust me there’s nothing more that I believe not a detail I don’t see of this woe in front of me except the air that I breathe and this world at my feet when I’ve got you by my side
I know what you wanna hear me say
I think about it everyday
Trust me I’m not a man of belief but I know just what I need and it’s you that I see making movements at me like the wind through the trees when I’ve got you by my side
I know what you wanna hear me say
I think about it everyday
Don’t throw your life away
